What if the key to becoming healthy and living longer isn’t about focusing on diet and exercise?


That’s what Dan Buettner, The Blue Zones Project and a small town called Albert Lea, MN decided to find out.

There are 9 common traits that Dan found in the people around the globe who live the longest.

The Traits are:

  3. Down Shift
  4. 80% Rule
  5. Plant Slant
  6. Wine @ 5
  7. Belong
  8. Loved Ones First
  9. Right Tribe

His premise is that when individuals and communities optimize their environment for these 9 traits, healthy choices become easier to make.

If it were the easier choice to access and eat a healthy meal versus going through a drive-thru, which one would you choose more often? If it were the easier choice to walk to do errands or bike or walk to work versus drive, which one would you do more frequently?

His approach is to put triggers in the environment which makes the healthy diet and the physical exercise we so desperately need, the easy choice. It’s a community based approach to living better and longer and with more vitality; making healthy the habit and the norm.
