Eight foods account for 90 percent of all [allergic] reactions: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish and shellfish. Even trace amounts of a food allergen can cause a reaction.(1)
With food allergies on the rise and GMO labeling still embattled, franken food with even just a small part of one of the allergens listed above can cause issues.
But what about when we substitute one food for another, like for instance gluten? Or replacing cow’s milk with say soy, almond or even hemp. When we’re introducing new foods, even if they are healthy foods we need to be on the lookout for any allergic response.
